Introduction

Lent starts today, which is the journey toward Easter. Tomorrow we will join Jesus on this journey. Luke 9:23-24 And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. 24 For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it.

John 3:16-18
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.”
Philippians 2:5-8
Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.
Luke 9:23-24
And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it.”

I’m not sure if this is the most difficult Beatdown I’ve ever constructed, but it may have been the most impactful. As PAX carried their Cindy to the courthouse steps and back, they were forced to think about their Sin which forced Jesus to carry His cross and at the courthouse, they could ponder that spiritual transaction that took place as Jesus took our punishment for our sins. It also was a reminder that we are to “carry our Cross” which means we have a sacred responsibility to sacrifice ourselves on behalf of others and “be Christ” to those we love and to the world.
